Selectmen ban ticketed fundraisers in Town Park and approve annual mobile food-vendor licensing plan

The Sheffield Board of Selectmen moved July 15 to restrict ticketed fundraising events at Town Park and to adopt an annual licensing model for mobile food vendors.
Board members said the park is a taxpayer-funded public space and should remain open for families using the playground and restrooms; the board voted to send a letter to organizations advising that ticketed fundraisers will no longer be permitted and that donation-based events are acceptable. The board said large community events could be treated differently if appropriate.
Separately, town staff described a proposed change to the mobile food vendor permit process. Under the plan the town would issue an annual $100 license for mobile food trucks that are associated with a business location; the Board of Health would still inspect and approve vendors. Staff clarified the license would not allow unpermitted pop-ups on private driveways or roadside locations that could compete with local businesses.
A resident at 261 E Main Street spoke during public comment in support of the donation-based model to preserve open access for all families. The board approved sending the park letter by motion and voice vote.
