Selectmen approve highway employees agreement and accept EDM bid package

The Sheffield Board of Selectmen approved an employment agreement for Highway Department employees at its July 15 meeting and discussed related project procurement.
Town staff said the highway crew voted to decertify from their union and that the town prepared an agreement for highway employees outside the town’s personnel policy to preserve several protections previously in the union contract. The board reviewed the draft and agreed to a single change: a footwear allowance was raised from $300 to $350. A motion to approve the agreement, with that amendment, passed by voice vote.
During the same agenda item the board noted it received a bid package from EDM, an engineering and design firm, for a highway project; the board said it plans to accept the EDM bid but had not yet notified the company. Board members did not provide further substantive project details in the meeting.
Board discussion also clarified that accrued sick leave for highway employees is intended to be used rather than paid out at separation.
