The Northumberland County Board of Supervisors on April 9 approved the county's 2026 Comprehensive Plan and authorized adding a question about internet availability to the public survey, renumbering the instrument and directing the IT Department to finalize formatting with identified stakeholders.
Planning Commission Chair staff and County Planner Stuart McKenzie told the Board the Planning Commission recommended moving forward with the plan. The IT Department suggested a final survey question asking respondents about internet availability in the county; the Board approved including that question and authorized the IT Director to work with Mr. Kost and Maurice Johnson of the Economic Development Commission on survey format.
Chief Bailey pointed out a typographical error in the Emergency Services section that incorrectly named Fairfields Volunteer Rescue Squad; he said it should read Northumberland Volunteer Rescue and the correction was noted before the Board opened the public hearing. The public hearing opened and no members of the public spoke; the Board then approved the plan, including the internet survey question and renumbering, by a unanimous vote.
The approval moves the plan to implementation steps that include public outreach via printed and online surveys; the Board directed staff to coordinate next steps with the IT Department and EDC representatives.
