Cochran city department heads briefed the council at the Feb. 11, 2025 work session on operations, equipment donations and upcoming community events.
Finance Director Bonnie Raffield presented the financial report; Council Member Carla Coley asked about police entries appearing in orange on the report. Police Chief Jeff Trawick reported the department received two fully outfitted donated patrol vehicles (noted mileage of about 90,000 and 105,000) and acquired a Dodge Charger; he also updated the council that the animal control expansion project is under way but delayed by weather while framing is in progress and concrete work is pending. Chief Trawick recounted a joint operation with county and university partners that led to two arrests, recovery of stolen firearms and drug seizures, and noted an equipment donation of a 16x8 enclosed trailer from WOW (Woody Butts).
Fire Chief Brock Wilcher said the department responded to routine emergency calls, clarified it responds to all medical emergencies and vehicle accidents within city limits, and described managing response during a recent winter weather event that affected approximately 700 students. He reported four members provided mutual aid to Coweta County Fire and staff covered stations during a battalion chief's funeral.
Public Works Director Willie Farrow discussed five lift stations plus the main lift station, ongoing work on generator solutions, and said the City of Stockbridge has offered a potential generator donation; he said staff are discussing the need for multiple generators and the implementation of a SCADA monitoring system and plan to present at the annual retreat.
Melissa Barker of the Chamber of Commerce reviewed upcoming events including a candidate forum March 4, a Feb. 28 ribbon cutting for Blush Honey Salon, Caffeinated Connections on March 5, Bingo Night with Scott's BBQ, an annual banquet on March 22 and a silent auction and business awards.
