Dickson County Commission rejects Ford Enterprises rezoning, approves two other property rezones

The Dickson County Commission on Aug. 19 rejected a rezoning request from Ford Enterprises for a 1.33-acre parcel at Buddy Road and Loggins Road, while approving two other rezoning requests for properties in Dickson County.

A motion by Commissioner Jeff Spencer, seconded by Commissioner Linda Hayes, to rezone the Ford Enterprises parcel (Map 112, Part of Parcel 8.00) from A-1 (Agricultural) to C-2 (Commercial) failed on a final vote, recorded as seven no and three aye; the three aye votes were Stacey Batey, Linda Hayes and Jeff Spencer. During the public hearing the record notes one person spoke to represent Mr. Ford and four people opposed the rezoning.

The commission approved a motion by Commissioner David Shepard, seconded by Commissioner James C. Dawson, to rezone the David Lampley property (Map 145, Parcel 15.05, 9.74 acres on Abiff Road) from A-1 (Agricultural) to C-1 (Commercial); that motion passed by unanimous voice vote. The commission also approved the rezoning of the Russell and Anita Pickard property (Map 082, Parcel 57.05, 2.4 acres, Westcott Road) from C-2 (General Commercial) to C-1 (Commercial) on a unanimous voice vote.

Changing a parcel’s zoning classification alters allowable land uses and can affect future development, traffic and services in the district. The commission’s minutes record the map and parcel numbers and indicate where no members of the public attended the hearings for the Lampley and Pickard requests.

The commission took the votes as part of its regular session; no further debate or conditions on the approved rezones were recorded in the minutes.
