Dickson County Commission approves package of unanimous resolutions, including renaming chamber for Buford L. (Booty) Reed Jr.

At its June 24 meeting the Dickson County Commission unanimously approved a slate of resolutions: naming the commission chamber for longtime Commissioner Buford L. The Dickson County Commission on June 24 unanimously approved a package of resolutions that included designating the County Commission Courtroom as the “Buford L. (Booty) Reed, Jr. County Commission Chamber,” several budget amendments, an update to the county public records policy, a maintenance agreement with the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the transfer of county-owned interest in the Canterbury property to the county’s Industrial Development Board.
The chamber-naming resolution recognizes Buford L. (Booty) Reed Jr.’s 29 years of service as a county commissioner. The measure was adopted without recorded opposition.
The commission approved Resolution 06-2019-02 to authorize certain amendments to all county funds except those established for schools; Commissioner Jeff Eby moved the motion and Commissioner Carl Buckner seconded. The body also approved Resolution 06-2019-06 authorizing amendments to school-related funds (General Purpose School Fund, Federal Projects Fund and Central Cafeteria Fund) on a motion by Commissioner Carl Buckner and second by Commissioner Linda Hayes.
On a motion by Commissioner Randy Simpkins, seconded by Commissioner Carl Buckner, the commission amended its Public Records Policy to identify General Session Court Clerk Leslie Shelton as the Public Records Request Coordinator for that office (Resolution 06-2019-03).
The commission authorized the County Mayor to enter a General Maintenance Agreement with the Tennessee Department of Transportation for maintenance of safety improvements installed by TDOT; the motion was made by Commissioner Dwight McIllwain and seconded by Commissioner Stacey Batey (Resolution 06-2019-04).
The commission also approved transfer of the county’s one-half undivided interest in approximately 54.54 acres along Sanker Road (identified as Map 120, Parcel 011.00 and referred to in the meeting as the Canterbury Property) to the Industrial Development Board of the County of Dickson. The Industrial Development Board is negotiating a sale of the property to a third party for a reported gross price of $1,022,625. Commissioner David Shepard moved the transfer and Commissioner Jeff Eby seconded (Resolution 06-2019-05).
All measures were approved by unanimous aye voice votes with no recorded roll-call tallies in the minutes.
The meeting also included administrative items such as approval of notaries submitted by County Clerk Luanne Greer and announcements about the process to fill the county commission vacancy resulting from the death of Commissioner Buford Reed Jr.; Brian Regan is scheduled to present rules for that election process on July 29, 2019. The next regular session was set for July 29, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the newly designated chamber.
The commission adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
