County commission accepts road report, approves courtroom security grant and moves to five-year reappraisal cycle

At its Jan. 22 meeting the Dickson County Commission approved several resolutions affecting county operations and budgets.
The commission accepted the 2019 Dickson County Road Report by unanimous voice vote after a motion from Commissioner Randy Simpkins and a second from Commissioner Carl Buckner.
Commissioners also approved Resolution 01-2019-02 to accept the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) Court Security Grant Program. The grant is structured as a 90/10 award; the minutes record the county’s 10 percent match as $6,810 and the state reimbursement as $61,290. Commissioner Jeff Eby moved the resolution and Commissioner Dwight McIllwain seconded; the motion passed by unanimous aye voice vote and included a budget amendment to Fund 101 to provide the local match.
On Resolution 01-2019-05, the commission approved changing the county’s reappraisal schedule from a six-year cycle to a continuous five-year reappraisal cycle. Commissioner David Shepard moved and Commissioner Becky Spicer seconded the motion; the minutes record unanimous approval.
The commission also passed Resolution 01-2019-03 urging the Tennessee General Assembly to enact a private act designating the position of Highway Engineer as an appointed office. That motion, moved by Commissioner Jeff Eby and seconded by Commissioner Carl Buckner, passed by an 8–2 voice vote; the minutes record the tally but do not list individual nay votes.
