Student advisory board named; BHS volleyball honored for academic achievement

The Bourne School Committee used part of its Oct. 2 agenda to elevate student voice and recognize student achievements.
Student Representative Addie (Addison) Dion introduced the district’s new Student Advisory board, naming members Lola Lumley, Adrianna DeMoura, Taylor Simard, Lila Moerman, Zoe Noonan and Mikayla Noonan. Dion explained the advisory will meet monthly with district leaders including Dr. Zhou and committee members to provide feedback and carry student perspectives to committee discussions.
Dr. Maguire introduced the Bourne High School 2024 volleyball team for earning the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award and Honor Roll. Mr. Ashworth praised the team as “the epitome of student athletes year after year,” and certificates were distributed to twelve student-athletes named in the meeting record.
Principals and program leads also previewed upcoming school events: BES will host literacy and fire‑safety programming, Boosterthon events and Trunk‑or‑Treat on Oct. 24; BIS listed field trips and a planetarium visit; BMS highlighted Spirit Week and band performance opportunities; BHS outlined Homecoming activities, testing dates and a drama fundraiser. The committee encouraged community participation and noted the district calendar is maintained as a live resource.
