Bourne School Committee records roll-call votes on MASC resolutions ahead of November conference

The Bourne School Committee on Oct. 2 reviewed and recorded roll‑call votes on ten Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC) resolutions that the district’s delegate will register at the MASC/MASS conference Nov. 6–8.
Chair Emily Berry introduced the resolutions and committee members discussed and voted on each. Highlights included a unanimous 7–0 vote to oppose Resolution #1 (Development of an Alternative to the High‑Stakes MCAS Test); a 6–1 vote to support Resolution #2 (Increase Compulsory Attendance Age), with Member Kari MacRae voting no; and a unanimous 7–0 vote to support Resolution #4 (School Bus Stop Arm Surveillance Act and Enforcement Penalties). The committee chose to abstain on Resolution #5 (Aligning Taxing Authority With the Required Local Contribution), stating the proposal does not affect the district.
Other outcomes: the committee voted to support Resolution #6 (Support of Legislation to Improve the Fiscal Health of Rural School Districts) and Resolution #7 (Fully Adjusting Chapter 70 Aid for Inflation) 7–0; it voted not to approve Resolution #9 (MSBA Grants Evaluation for Chapter 74) and Resolution #10 (Expansion in Capacity in Chapter 74 Vocational Technical Programs), each by a 7–0 vote against approval. Votes were recorded by roll call as part of the official meeting minutes.
The committee will designate a member attending the conference to enter these recorded votes on the district’s behalf.
