Coolidge council unanimously approves routine measures, names Police Chief Michael Jordan safety coordinator

The City of Coolidge City Council on May 13, 2025, unanimously approved a package of routine administrative and budget items and appointed Police Chief Michael Jordan as the city’s safety coordinator.
Mayor Diane H. Causey opened the regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. and thanked attendees for the National Police Week ceremony, noting City Manager Lonnie Adamson coordinated the event. On a series of unanimous motions the council approved prior meeting minutes, the order of the agenda and the bills to be paid.
City Manager Lonnie Adamson briefed the council on several administrative follow-ups: granting Hudson & Nesmith CPAs access to the city’s accounting software for bank reconciliations; investigating replacement options for the water treatment plant aerator; pursuing safety grants through the city’s insurance provider; and identifying locations for additional “Slow, Children at Play” signage.
The police department reported 26 traffic stops for the period covered and a list of other calls for service. The council approved Chief Michael Jordan’s training course ($1,472) and authorized purchase of police vests. The council also appointed Chief Jordan as the city’s Safety Coordinator; those measures passed with recorded aye votes from the four councilmembers present.
Public Works reported one water tap on Highway 319 North and four in the Marshall Trace subdivision (with one installation pending), ordered degreaser and deodorizer to address lift-station odor issues, and said an aerator pump had been delivered to Smith Electric for diagnostic evaluation. The council authorized procurement for asphalt to repair potholes and surface damage.
The council approved payment of a Stillwater invoice for $59,460 related to the Lead and Copper Project and authorized a roll-off container for a spring cleanup scheduled May 19–June 2, 2025; both motions were recorded as unanimous. Councilmember Melissa Johnson also requested additional children-at-play signage be installed; staff were directed to identify locations.
On motion by Elizabeth Leger and second by Melissa Johnson, the council voted to enter executive session to discuss personnel matters under the statutory exception cited in the minutes (O.C.G.A. § 50-14-3(b)(2)). The meeting was then adjourned by Mayor Diane H. Causey.
