Coolidge council appoints city officials, accepts legal services and approves routine business

The Coolidge City Council on Jan. 14 unanimously approved several appointments and routine administrative actions, including naming Melissa Johnson mayor pro tem and accepting a legal services agreement with Kyle Swann.
Mayor Diane H. Causey opened the meeting at 6:30 p.m. and the council postponed formal approval of the December 2024 minutes to the next meeting. The council then appointed Melissa Johnson as mayor pro tem (motion by Tonia Gentry; second Liz Leger), and later appointed Kyle Swann as city attorney, Richard T. Kent as municipal judge and Meritta Patillo as city clerk; each appointment passed by unanimous vote.
The council approved a legal services agreement for Kyle Swann (motion Liz Leger; second Melissa Johnson) and voted to add Lonnie Adamson to the City of Coolidge checking accounts (motion Liz Leger; second Tonia Gentry). The minutes state that a resolution will be prepared to formalize the bank account change.
Other business included approval of amendments to the personnel policy updating the 2025 holiday schedule and the appointment of Councilmember Tonia Gentry as chair of the zoning committee. The council discussed sign regulations for billboards but took no formal action on that item during the meeting.
