Harpersville council approves zoning changes, hires part-time librarian and OKs defibrillator repairs

Harpersville’s Town Council unanimously approved three routine measures at its Feb. 2 meeting: amendments to the town zoning ordinance, the hiring of a part-time librarian and a repair contract for the fire department’s defibrillator.
Councilmember Beverly Johnson moved to approve Resolution 2026-02-02-01, adopting recommended amendments to Article II and Article XXIII of the zoning ordinance; Councilmember Martin Dates seconded and Mayor Theoangelo Perkins declared the motion passed unanimously by voice vote. The motion adopts the Planning & Zoning Board’s recommended changes to the specified articles of the ordinance, as presented at the meeting.
Councilmember William Carter moved to adopt Resolution 2026-02-02-02 to hire Codie Davis as a part-time librarian for the Harpersville Library; Councilmember Martin Dates seconded and the mayor declared the motion passed unanimously by voice vote.
Councilmember Carter also moved to approve Resolution 2026-02-02-03, accepting a quote from Zoll to repair the Harpersville Fire Department’s defibrillator; Councilmember Malynda McLaughlin seconded and Mayor Perkins declared the motion passed unanimously by voice vote.
During the meeting David Sanders updated the council on a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) line-replacement committee reallocation, saying Harpersville will receive roughly $5,500 in additional funds distributed among projects. The council confirmed several upcoming meetings and community events before adjourning at 5:51 p.m.
No roll-call vote totals were recorded in the meeting minutes beyond the mayor’s declaration of unanimous voice approval.
