Pleasant Grove — City leaders and community volunteers on Jan. 12 encouraged residents to attend a senior activities kickoff and to support local food banks, with volunteers and organizers outlining immediate needs and recent service figures.
The senior activities program begins Jan. 13 with a meet-and-greet and morning activities; the freelance senior activities director asked for donations to cover snacks and four-day trips and said two donation buckets remain at city hall to avoid charging seniors for participation. "We do have some funds in the budget, but I'm trying my best to preserve those funds for the 4 day trips," the senior program director told the council during public comment.
Representatives from the Hope Community Center food bank reported that in December they served 21 families: 45 adults and 18 children, for a total of 63 people. Councilors and volunteers committed initial support: Councilor Van Williams said the Bradberry Foundation would provide $1,000 to the Hope Community Center pantry for January and a similar effort at Easter.
Public commenters also raised quality-of-life concerns, such as unreadable street signs and localized dumping; council staff noted enforcement follow-up and an updated completion date for railroad roadwork.
What happens next: Organizers will continue to collect donations at city hall for senior programming, the Hope Community Center will operate its Tuesday distribution schedule, and council staff will follow up on street-sign and cleanup requests.
