Pleasant Grove — The Pleasant Grove City Council on Jan. 12 unanimously approved a short-term service contract for a retiring employee, authorized travel advances for several officials and appointed a municipal court judge and prosecutor.
Council moved quickly through several consent items before the appointments. The council approved Resolution 2026-02 to enter a service contract with Margaret Rice, who is retiring Jan. 31, 2026; the contract will allow Rice to provide services as needed while a replacement is onboarded. The motion passed by show of hands with no recorded opposition.
The council also approved Resolution 2026-03, authorizing travel advances for Counselor James Steven Wilkerson, Counselor Jquis Garary, Mayor Yolanda Lawson, Mayor Pro Tem Regina Van Williams and Executive Assistant Dika Haj to attend the National League of Cities and Alabama League of Municipalities advocacy events. Council approved Resolution 2026-04 to move the March meeting from March 16 to March 9, 2026, citing continuing education schedules that would leave a quorum unavailable on the original date.
By unanimous consent the council appointed Ken Moore as municipal court judge and Cheryl Kidd as the city prosecutor. The appointments followed a procedural vote to consider the items and passed without recorded questions or opposition.
Council members presented the motions and seconded them on the floor; votes were taken by show of hands. No roll-call tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript. Staff said the service-contract arrangement with Rice is intended to maintain continuity in municipal services as the city completes an internal hiring process.
What happens next: The contract with Margaret Rice becomes effective immediately and will allow the city to use Rice’s services on an as-needed basis during the transition to a permanent hire. Travel advances will be implemented for the named delegates; the council did not provide individual advance amounts in the meeting record.
