GBH and Mass 9/11 Fund release free 9/11 classroom resources ahead of 25th anniversary

Elizabeth Gardner of GBH described the materials — three videos in the US History Collection on PBS Learning Media, an interactive lesson titled "September 11th, 2001: Tragedy, Courage, and Remembrance," transcripts, captions and teacher-facing lesson guides. A key aim, she said, is to ensure "the individuals who lost their lives, their brave acts of resistance, and the specific role Massachusetts played in the attacks are never forgotten." Patrick Davis of the Massachusetts 9/11 Fund described plans to present the resources at the Boston Public Library on May 19 and to make family-zoom options available for classrooms.
Resource highlights: The materials chronicle the sequence of flights, crew and passenger resistance aboard Flight 93, the role of local communities (two flights departed Logan), and short- and long-term impacts including first-responder health consequences. GBH staff emphasized alignment with standards and added supporting questions, pre-/post-viewing prompts and accessibility features (captions/transcripts).
No action requested: The presentation sought to highlight and promote free resources to teachers; DESE staff said they would include the materials in their catalog of recommended resources and publicize webinars and professional-development opportunities ahead of the anniversary.
