The Village of South Range Common Council on Oct. 5 unanimously approved a series of routine administrative measures, including an annual insurance policy, authorization for a property-sale signer, purchases for alley repairs and payment of monthly bills.
Trustee Greg Harkonen moved to accept the Hannula Agency insurance policy; Trustee Justin Marier seconded the motion and the council recorded unanimous approval. Trustee Paul Saaranen asked that the record show the purchase was treated as an emergency; the council said it will obtain competing insurance quotes before the next renewal period.
The council also authorized Village President George Eakin to be the approved signer for the sale of Lot 20, Block 7 (Baltic Avenue), parcel #31-045-107-020-00 after a motion from Trustee Paul Saaranen supported by Trustee Justin Marier. Separately, the council approved a $200 donation to the Jeffers 5K and agreed to pay bills totaling $63,057.68 — $14,715.74 in prior bills and $48,341.94 in new bills — after a motion by Trustee Paul Saaranen and second by Trustee Cody Bonini.
On infrastructure, trustees approved up to $10,000 to purchase pipes and supplies from Core & Main for repair work in the Fourth and Fifth Street alley. Trustee Justin Marier moved the purchase; Trustee Cody Bonini supported it. Trustee Paul Saaranen again requested that the record reflect that this was an emergency purchase.
The council approved a one-time meeting pay for Public Works employees Dave Swetich and Kody Maki for attending the Oct. 5 meeting after a motion from Trustee Therese Parolini and support from Trustee Greg Harkonen.
What’s next: The village will proceed with the authorized purchases and file the property-sale paperwork with the designated signer. The council directed staff to seek insurance-quote comparisons prior to the next renewal.
