South Range street commissioner reports new drain pipe, water-tank repairs and winter preparations

Craig Burkman, the Village Street Commissioner, briefed the council during the Nov. 2 meeting on recent public works projects and winter preparations.
Burkman reported that crews installed 600 feet of new drain pipe in the alley between 4th and 5th Street (between Baltic Avenue and Champion Avenue). He said Public Works employees Brandon Skewes and Kody Maki took the water certification test on Nov. 1, and employee Dave Swetich took the wastewater certification test on Nov. 2. Range Telecommunications installed new parts for the village water tank and the village borrowed an antenna from Adams Township to restore communications with the tank. Burkman added that public works equipment is staged for winter, sand and salt are mixed in the salt shed, and staff are trying to discharge the lagoons before winter.

The council also discussed longer-running drainage issues; township and state engineering input (U.P. Engineering and EGLE) was referenced in relation to culvert recommendations. No formal votes were recorded on those items at the meeting.
