South Range council to consider first‑responder donation; superintendent says SRO will not be shared

David Mattila, representing Adams Township Fire & First Responders, asked the Village of South Range to consider reinstating a donation for volunteer medical services during the village’s annual budget discussions. Mattila told the council the last recorded donation was $1,500 and that the village has not provided a donation since 2017.
Tim Keteri, superintendent of the Adams Township School District, briefed the council that the district has a posted part‑time School Resource Officer (SRO) that will split time between Jeffers High School in Painesdale and South Range Elementary. Keteri said the district is not able to share that officer with the Village, so the district’s SRO would not be available to supplement village public‑safety coverage.
Village President George Eakin and trustees acknowledged both points; the council did not make a funding commitment at the Jan. 4 meeting and directed that the request be considered during the village’s Annual Budget Meeting. No dollar amount or formal commitment was recorded at the meeting.
