South Range council approves donations, CD renewals and a treasurer pay resolution; forms personnel committee

At its April 4 meeting the Village of South Range Common Council approved local donations, several certificate-of-deposit renewals, a pay-related resolution for the treasurer and formation of a personnel committee.
Trustees approved a $2,500 donation to the village 4th of July Committee and a separate $2,500 donation to Adams Township First Responders. The council also approved $1,500 for community beautification.
On finance items, Trustee Justin Marier moved a slate of CD renewals at Miners Bank: an 11-month Equipment CD at 5.11% APY, a three-month Whealkate paving CD at 4.05% APY and two unallocated general CDs for 11 months at 5.11% APY; Trustee Paul Saaranen supported the motions and each carried unanimously. The clerk had said three CDs mature on April 8 and one on April 12 and had provided rate quotes from Miners and Superior National.
The council approved a Treasurer Resolution that raises the treasurer’s pay by $25; the resolution was approved with the signatures of the village president and village clerk. Trustee Paul Saaranen moved to pay the bills totaling $44,677.29 (itemized in the motion as $42,099.64 in old bills and $2,577.65 in new bills); Trustee Cody Bonini seconded and the payment was approved unanimously.
The council also formed a Personnel Committee with members Greg Harkonen, Tim Korby and Therese Parolini. A proposed Assistant Public Works Director position was not acted on and was tabled to the May 2 meeting.
Next steps: newly approved financial transactions will be processed by the clerk and treasurer, and the personnel committee will begin its work as appointed.
