Village of South Range approves resolution to seek $116,000 MDOT grant to pave Whealkate Drive

The Village of South Range adopted Resolution No. 2024-02 on June 11, authorizing Village President George Eakin to apply for $116,000 in Michigan Department of Transportation Transportation Economic Development Fund Category B program money to grade and pave a segment of Whealkate Drive.
Trustee Paul Saaranen made the motion to approve the resolution, which Trustee Therese Parolini supported. The council recorded ayes from President George Eakin and Trustees Greg Harkonen, Therese Parolini and Paul Saaranen; no nays were recorded and three members were absent. The motion carried.
The resolution states that "the Village has authorized George Eakin, Village President, to act as agent on behalf of the Village to request Transportation Economic Development Fund Category B Program funding, to act as the applicant's agent during the project development, and to sign a project agreement upon receipt of a funding award." It identifies a requested grant amount of $116,000 and a village commitment of at least $142,750 toward construction costs, plus all costs for design, permit fees, administration and any cost overruns.
Council members also committed the village to an asset management plan for the road segments constructed with the Transportation Economic Development Fund Category B program funding. The resolution was offered by Trustee Paul Saaranen and supported by Trustee Therese Parolini.
No public comment was offered during the meeting. With no further business, Trustee Saaranen moved to adjourn the special meeting at 6:39 p.m.; Trustee Parolini supported the motion and the council voted all ayes.
