Fairbank Community Center wrap-up underway; acoustical fixes and ADA bench add to finish work

Christopher Eberly, project executive for Vertex, Inc., told the Permanent Building Committee at its Oct. 29 meeting that wrap-up work on the Fairbank Community Center (FCC) has begun and that most finish items are either complete or on track. He said drainage work by Woodall using perforated pipe and downspout receptors leading to new drywells is mostly complete and that Woodall has finished handicapped parking work; hydroseeding will be checked in the spring.
Eberly reported that an ADA bench change order was authorized for about $9,000. He also flagged unresolved acoustical work tied to Colantonio: Eberly estimated acoustical corrections at $275,000 plus about $13,000 for ceiling acoustical work above the movable partitions, while noting the final cost will depend on scope, materials and which contractor performs the work. “We will request a proposal from Colantonio,” Eberly said, and Thomas Scarlata (BH+A, project architect) agreed to produce a quick estimate based on Colantonio’s prior work with a multiplier for work in an occupied space so Vertex can revise its estimate if warranted.
Eberly told the committee that, assuming no additional Colantonio change orders, he expects about $340,000 will remain in the project budget. He also said building controls are being updated as part of commissioning and that the punch list is being addressed.
Next steps include receiving the quick estimate from the architect, a proposal request to Colantonio for the acoustical work, and spring follow-up on landscaping and hydroseeding. The committee scheduled its next meeting for Nov. 19, pending confirmation of key attendees.
