Deep River library trustees approve minutes, hear director's report and add new programs

The Deep River Public Library Board of Trustees met on Jan. 12, 2026 and unanimously approved the minutes of Dec. 8, 2025 and a Liberty Bank account report.
Donna Mingrone called the meeting to order at 6:36 p.m. and led a review of routine business. In the Treasurer's report Mingrone said the Liberty Checking account has an ending balance of $4,977.50, the Liberty Money Market balance is $27,584.31 and the Citizens' (town-funded) account balance is $21,263.21. On motion made and seconded, the Trustees voted unanimously to approve the Liberty Bank account report.
The board received correspondence noting thank-you notes from staff members Karen Giugno and Tracey Sacrey for holiday gift certificates.
Under the Library Director's report the board was told overall wifi usage increased by about 30 percent and that the director's office is experiencing a weakening signal that may require an additional wifi booster. The director also reported procurement challenges after the closure of distributor Baker & Taylor and tariffs on books printed in China; of 30 new titles ordered through Ingram only three arrived on time.
Trustees were informed that the library had reduced the Hoopla checkout limit and cost per item for the month and that two new programs will be offered: a Dungeons & Dragons program for tweens and teens and an adult program titled Unlocking Executive Functions. A printed Statement on Library Programming and Resource Allocation was distributed and posted online for patrons.
The board completed committee assignments for the year, heard an exhibits report about an art show planned around Valentine's Day and adjourned at 7:10 p.m. The minutes are subject to approval at the next Library Board meeting.
