Committee reviews early‑site activation guidelines; Parks to lead event approvals on Great Island

During the Feb. 13 session, committee member Jeffrey Taebel reviewed an Early Site Activation Guidelines update and materials relevant to special events. Taebel said the Parks Department would be the lead department for public-event coordination on Great Island and would coordinate approvals with other departments as needed.
Taebel told the committee that Planning and Zoning advised a Special Permit would be required to hold events on Great Island. He said he, Bruce Ferguson and Lori Bora will research comparable properties and permitting approaches to develop a baseline for how the Town reviews and approves event applications. Ms. McNally said she looks forward to future updates on this work.
Why it matters: event approvals determine whether the island may host organized uses that can affect operations, costs and permitting requirements. The committee asked staff to identify the appropriate entity to review and approve early‑site activations and to report back on comparable properties.
Votes at the meeting included unanimous approval of the January 22, 2025 minutes (moved by Ms. Bora; seconded by Mr. Ferguson) and a unanimous motion to adjourn (moved by Mr. Ferguson; seconded by Mr. Palen) at 9:06 p.m.
