The Sudbury Planning Board on May 13 approved a Minor Site Plan allowing a 13-foot by 28-foot outdoor seating area at 530A Boston Post Road, while advising the applicant to use a more durable barrier than the proposed plastic fencing.
Applicant John Ma described the seating area, which would be seasonally installed and set off by temporary fencing removed for winter. Director Adam Burney said the area is flat, accessible from the parking lot and includes an ADA-compliant ramp consistent with the Meadow Walk development. Mr. Garvin read recommendations from absent member Ahnu Shah expressing that the proposed plastic fencing would not be in keeping with the development; Ms. Perlman and Ms. Roopenian agreed and requested either metal fencing or a simpler post-and-chain barrier. Roopenian also asked that, if a plastic fence is used, it be properly secured.
Vice-Chair John Sugrue moved and Member Julie Perlman seconded approval of the Minor Site Plan with the board’s noted preference for a simpler or metal barrier; the motion passed 4-0. Burney noted the restaurant had recently received an alcohol license from the Select Board and that no barrier was required by that license.
The board’s approval allows the restaurant to proceed with the seasonal outdoor seating, subject to the applicant meeting any building or health code requirements and selecting a barrier that meets the board’s expressed aesthetic and safety preferences.
