The St. James Township Board on June 10 made multiple administrative decisions, including commission renewals, committee renaming and a land-use decision.
A motion by Gillespie and seconded by Peirano renewed McDonough to the Beaver Island Airport Committee (BIAC), Welke to the Beaver Island Emergency Services Authority (BIESA), and Conner to the WMC; Supervisor Welke was also appointed to a vacant Joint Telecommunication Advisory Commission (JTAC) seat. The board then voted to post vacancies for two weeks on the Beaver Island Transportation Authority, the St. James Township Planning Commission, and JTAC.
The board approved a motion renaming township committees to the Finance Advisory Committee, Public Works Advisory Committee, and Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee to clarify advisory roles.
On a separate land-use request from Peaine Township to swap properties, the board voted unanimously to decline the request.
Treasurer McDonough described a staffing suggestion for cleaning marina restrooms and showers: use marina employees to perform the cleaning at $25/hour, tracked separately from marina hours. A motion by McDonough and seconded by Cole to approve the cleaning arrangement passed by roll call vote with all members recorded as yes.
The board scheduled a special meeting for June 15, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. to address additional items.
