Supervisor Welke reports good results from runway millings; parking-lot plan altered

Supervisor Welke updated the St. James Township Board on June 10 about two public-works items: aggregate production from runway millings and plans for paving the Government Center parking lot.
Welke said the aggregate created from millings of a previous township runway is of good quality and that production is well underway. She said mainland colleagues in the road industry provided positive feedback on the material but noted that its properties differ from other gravel piles that harden with rain.
On the Government Center parking-lot paving project, Welke said local contractors capable of concrete work are not currently available. As a result, sidewalks will be constructed of asphalt and ramps will be wood instead of concrete; the supervisor is obtaining cost estimates for board approval as plans are finalized.
Also noted: Treasurer McDonough said she is still working to find replacement pyrotechnicians for Independence Day fireworks; no decision on that item was reached at the meeting.
