Danbury Board of Assessment Appeals adopts hearing procedures, notes pending state auto-assessment format

The Danbury Board of Assessment Appeals convened at 3:30 p.m. March 3 with Chairman Ronald Struski and members Whilma O'Leary and Jesy Fernandez present. The board reviewed and confirmed the format it will use to hear property tax appeals this season.
Board members said appeals will be heard by the committee as a whole rather than as individual hearings. The board confirmed that property values used for appeals were those established as of Oct. 1, 2022. The appeals process presented to attendees includes an oath administered by the clerk, followed by five specific questions each property owner must answer before discussion with the board. The board said detailed deliberations on individual appeals will occur after the conclusion of all evening appeals.
Members also noted an impending change from the State of Connecticut to the assessment format used for automobiles. The board said it had not yet received the exact details and that staff will circulate the state's guidance to board members when it arrives.
A procedural motion to adjourn the meeting at 4:00 p.m. was made by member Whilma O'Leary, seconded by member Jesy Fernandez; the motion carried unanimously and the meeting was adjourned. The minutes include a received-for-record stamp from the Danbury City Town Clerk dated March 10, 2025.
