Guilford superintendent approves Italy study trip for 2026 at $2,600 per student

Superintendent Dr. Freeman told the board he has approved an international field trip to the Babylonia Center for Italian Studies in Termoli, Italy, scheduled for Feb. 13—y'2, 2026. The trip will take place during the district's abbreviated February break; students will miss three days of school and are responsible for keeping up with assigned work.
The superintendent said the cost for students who elect to go is $2,600 and that the program intends to take a maximum of 30 students. He described a proposed prioritization that would give seniors first preference, then juniors, subject to available space. Miss Tina Fio Herbert is in the audience and was identified as a contact to answer questions related to the trip.
Dr. Freeman noted the trip requires no board action at this time but that board policy requires the superintendent to bring international travel plans to the board for awareness. The district will provide families with advance notice so they can plan for the expense.
