Sudbury 250 Committee approves merchandise orders, outlines children's activities for Sudbury Day

Committee Chair Radha Gargeya said he had invited Sudbury Park & Recreation to participate and asked whether children could contribute artwork and take part in a scavenger-hunt style activity at the event; he also raised the idea of a future Sudbury 250 Garden dedication. Jim Wiegel, a committee member, reported limited parking at a recent event at the Martha Mary Chapel because of snowplowing and estimated 45'50 attendees; members discussed using the Methodist Church informally for overflow parking and the Lincoln'Sudbury (L/S) High School parking area as an organized pickup/dropoff site.
Christina Daison of Sudbury Extended Day (SED) described planned children's games and arts-and-crafts targeting kindergarten through eighth-grade students and emphasized contingency planning for bad weather. Mari Weldon, Director of SED, joined by Zoom and asked whether Sunny Hill staff would be invited to support the children's activities, stressing that children with special needs must be accommodated.
The committee approved two merchandise motions during the meeting. Radha asked the group to approve ordering additional Sudbury 250 shirts; Jan Hardenbergh moved to place an order identical to the prior run, John Neuhauser seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Jan Hardenbergh later proposed buying 1,500 pins (priced at $1.21 each) for participants boarding buses at the Lincoln'Sudbury High School pickup; John Neuhauser seconded and the purchase was approved unanimously. Committee members noted Jim Wiegel will check sales at the Wayside Inn gift shop.
Committee members reported a remaining Sudbury 250 budget balance of $12,000 to be spent by Dec. 31, 2026. The group accepted two submitted plays for inclusion in the published Sudbury Day program and acknowledged two essay contest submissions, agreeing to send acknowledgement letters and to discuss awards and next steps with the chair.
The committee added the Hearse House to its list of historic sites for upcoming visits and set additional programming details to be finalized in the coming weeks.
The committee set its next meeting for Feb. 18.
