Sudbury 250 to coordinate with July 4 parade; organizers plan a Declaration reading and seek volunteers

The Sudbury 250 Committee agreed on Jan. 21 to coordinate closely with Parade Committee organizers for the town’s July 4, 2026 event, including a proposed reading of the Declaration of Independence during the parade.

Chair Radha Gargeya said Sudbury 250 will likely enter a float and "will do 'what we can'" to support parade efforts, and the committee discussed logistics for a float-mounted reading and possible readers. "The Parade Committee plans to ‘go big’ in 2026," Martha Welsh, president of the Sudbury Chamber of Commerce, told the committee, and parade organizers Libby and Mike Hamill said they want to align the parade schedule with Sudbury 250’s planned programming.

The exchange followed a public comment from Laura Abrams asking about the parade’s theme and declining attendance; Parade Committee volunteers told the committee they need additional help. Committee members discussed promoting Chamber fundraising efforts at Select Board meetings and agreed that Sudbury 250 would publicize parade-related fundraising and volunteer requests through the channels the committee uses.
