Sudbury committee continues search for WAV vendors and reviews funding updates including state earmark and MassDOT grant

The Sudbury Transportation Committee on Nov. 14 continued its search for a wheelchair‑accessible vehicle (WAV) provider and reviewed funding developments that could affect local services.
Committee members discussed vendor references for FedNor; Chair Dan Carty said the references provided were ‘‘not overly positive (but not negative),’’ and one reference lacked a date. Members asked for additional checks, including telephone contacts with current customers and online review searches. Adam Burney noted that a previously mentioned WAV provider appeared likely to be cost‑prohibitive for the town. The committee agreed to continue seeking vendors and to gather more references.
On funding, Adam told the committee a state earmark had been passed and the money was ‘‘now making its way through the bureaucracy’’ toward Sudbury. Dan reminded members that the town’s annual budget would be reviewed at Town Meeting on Dec. 1 and said he would discuss with the Select Board potential use of free cash if needed to keep Catch Connect running. Alice Sapienza shared a MassDOT grant summary from Jim Nee of the MWRTA, noting many collaborating regional transit authorities are included and that ‘‘the grant is likely to be funded at some level.’’ Jim Nee also indicated that the grant did not include route details; if funded, Sudbury would be involved in route selection.
Administrative items: the committee unanimously approved amended minutes for Oct. 3 (motion by Alice Sapienza, seconded by Adam Burney) and Oct. 17 (motion by Adam Burney, seconded; roll‑call unanimous). The next meeting was scheduled for Dec. 12, 2025, and the committee adjourned at 11:30 a.m. after a unanimous motion to adjourn by Burney (seconded by Sapienza).
The committee will continue vendor vetting and will review a financial summary and staff recommendations at its next meeting.
