Hartford hires Public Consulting Group to study school portfolio and facility use

The Hartford Board of Education voted June 16 to contract with Public Consulting Group (PCG) for up to $169,800 to conduct a comprehensive portfolio evaluation through June 30, 2027.
District staff said the study will examine enrollment trends, facility utilization, cost‑benefit tradeoffs, feeder alignment, and program access across zoned and magnet schools. Len(n) Williamson of PCG told the board the work will include extensive stakeholder engagement — students, teachers, school leaders and families — and will culminate in an interim report, a final report and an options tool that outlines multiple portfolio scenarios with data‑driven recommendations.
Board members framed the contract as a necessary step to address long‑term enrollment decline and to make strategic decisions that center student experience. The superintendent and staff said PCG was selected through an RFP process and emphasized the firm’s alignment with district priorities.
Board approval was by voice vote. The contract will fund data collection, stakeholder engagement, and scenario modeling; staff said community outreach will be central to any recommendations about reconfiguration or facility changes.
