Music boosters tell Guilford board enrollment is rebounding and ask for continued support

Elizabeth Gust, treasurer of the Guilford High School music boosters, told the Operations Committee the music program is thriving and asked the board to continue supporting student ensembles in the FY26 budget.
Gust said 286 students participate in ensembles and another 72 are enrolled in music classes, cited a grant that made a digital-audio-production class possible and noted students perform at community events and at venues such as Yale's Sprague Hall. She also said students will travel to Italy in the spring and asked the board to consider continued funding to sustain touring and enrichment activities.
Gust said strong community involvement and booster support have helped the program grow and that participation at feeder schools Baldwin and Adams is back to pre-pandemic levels.
The committee did not vote on specific music funding at the meeting; budget development will continue with additional opportunities for public comment next January.
