Guilford Board swears in Ralph Brooks as newest member

Ralph Brooks was sworn in as a member of the Guilford Board of Education during the board’s Sept. 9 meeting, a brief ceremony that followed a unanimous endorsement at the previous meeting.
Kristen Peek introduced Brooks and explained that the panel followed the town charter preference to select a replacement from the same political party as the departing member. Bill Bloss, introduced by board members as a commissioner of the Superior Court of Connecticut, administered the oath of office. After the oath, Brooks thanked the board and family members who joined him at the podium.
Board members welcomed Brooks and noted his international experience, ties to Yale and local involvement, and that he and his family have two children in the district. The swearing-in took place at the start of the regular agenda; Brooks later abstained from at least one vote because he had not yet had time to review the relevant materials.
The meeting continued with routine business, including approval of minutes and votes on personnel and financial items.
