Danbury Firemen's Pension Board sends firefighter’s disability request to independent medical exam

The Danbury Firemen's Pension Board voted 5-0 on Jan. 30 to move a firefighter’s request for a disability retirement under Section 32-72 to an independent medical examination (IME) for further evaluation.
Firefighter Alexander P. Greczylo submitted a written request to the board and attached two physician letters. In his letter, Greczylo wrote, “please let this letter serve as my formal request to file for service-related disability under: Section 32-72. - Retirement for disability incurred in the line of duty.” The board recorded receipt of the letter and supporting medical documentation during a special meeting conducted via Zoom.
Board member Jeff Tomchik moved to accept Greczylo’s request and forward it to the IME process; Mayor Alves seconded the motion. The chairman read the applicable ordinance in full before the board voted; the measure passed unanimously, with five votes in favor and none opposed.
Minutes filed with the city note the meeting was convened at 12:07 p.m. and adjourned at 12:12 p.m.; the minutes were dated Feb. 4, 2025 when received for the record. The board did not record additional debate or a timetable for the IME in the meeting minutes.
The next procedural steps, as recorded, are the IME and any follow-up actions the board may take based on that medical evaluation. The meeting minutes were signed by Gabriel Rivera, secretary of the Firemen's Pension Board.
