Mayor Jane described the drill as part of the district’s ongoing commitment to safety and said the emergency response team — including the police chief and fire chief — will participate. To practice off-campus reunification, the district will move elementary students to the high school and dismiss high-school students from the elementary school at staggered times to test transportation and dismissal procedures. The district will follow up with families after the drill to share lessons learned.
Officials emphasized the importance of clear reunification procedures; the committee asked staff to review processes and report back. The committee also discussed alternate evacuation locations the town has arranged with neighboring sites.
The drill is intended to clarify logistics for student reunification, test bus and van arrangements and identify process improvements ahead of any actual emergency.
