Granby School Committee accepts policies, donation and routine consent items

The Granby School Committee on Feb. 24 approved updates to district policies and accepted an equipment donation during a meeting that also reviewed budget planning and emergency-preparedness work.
The committee voted to accept the medication-administration policy after a second reading. Garrett Slok, who answered committee questions about liability and delegation, said the regulations place responsibility with the district nurse and the district under the nurse’s license, noting that "the nurse who delegates the medication" bears responsibility under applicable regulations. Following that discussion the committee moved and approved the policy by voice vote.
The committee also approved the district’s health-and-wellness policy after presenters and wellness-committee members said the plan was supported by staff and feasible to implement. A motion to adopt the policy was made and approved by voice vote.
On the consent agenda the committee accepted the Feb. 3, 2026 meeting minutes and warrants (0049, 0050 and 0052). Members also voted to accept an electric piano offered by Mr. Kennedy on behalf of his late brother; Jenny Hajamowitz, introduced as the GMPA president, told the committee Mr. Kennedy asked that the instrument be donated "on behalf of Donald Boyce," and members discussed adding a small plaque to acknowledge the gift.
Committee members briefly discussed background-check updates and approved adding additional checks as part of new-hire screening (details in a separate item). The meeting closed with the committee voting to enter executive session to discuss collective bargaining strategy for Unit A; the board announced it would not return to open session.
