Killingly Board elects Susan Lannon chair, Meredith Gianbattista vice chair; appoints Diane Summa

At its Dec. 10 meeting the Killingly Board of Education elected Susan Lannon chair and Meredith Gianbattista vice chair, and appointed Diane Summa to fill a board vacancy after a roll-call vote of 6–1.
The Killingly Board of Education elected Susan Lannon as board chair and Meredith Gianbattista as vice chair and filled a vacant board seat at its Dec. 10 meeting at Central Office.
Misty Murdock nominated Susan Lannon for chair and the ballot vote was 7–0, the board recorded. Murdock then nominated Meredith Gianbattista for vice chair; that ballot vote was also 7–0 and the motion carried. Those votes were taken under Bylaw #9120, which governs officers and election procedures.
The board interviewed Diane Summa, endorsed by the Republican Town Committee, to fill the vacant seat. After the interview, the board approved Summa’s nomination. A roll-call recorded six yes votes (Laura Dombkowski, Nelson King, Misty Murdock, Kyle Provencher, Susan Lannon and Meredith Gianbattista) and one no vote by Kevin Marcoux; the motion carried.
Chair Lannon also used the meeting to thank the district’s winter sports teams and to wish the Killingly High School football team good luck in its state championship game.
What happens next: Summa will join the board as the appointed member; the board has asked members to email committee preferences ahead of upcoming liaison and committee assignments.
