Town-council liaison reports CT Water work on Route 12 and ongoing sewer-moratorium talks with Frito Lay

At the Sept. 10 Killingly Board of Education meeting the town-council liaison provided updates affecting municipal infrastructure and utilities. The liaison reported that CT Water Company will perform work along Route 12 between Plainfield and Killingly on a water main and that a sewer moratorium remains in place while talks with Frito Lay continue.
Michelle Murphy clarified that Frito Lay contributes substantially to the town's allocated biochemical oxygen demand and overall contaminant levels. Murphy said that if Frito Lay pre-treated its waste before it entered the Killingly system, it would reduce the overall load and lessen impacts to the system. The liaison noted that the renter's abatement rebate remains available through the Sept. 30 application deadline and that "Coffee with Council & BOE" will be held Sept. 27 at Chubby Dog Coffee.
Board members asked follow-up questions about the moratorium; no board action was taken on these municipal items during the school board meeting.
