Corning Community Schools board approves vehicle cameras, paraeducator hires and construction change orders; declines high‑school vestibule plan

At its Oct. 21 meeting the Board of Education of the Corning Community Schools approved two Estes Construction change orders (including a $9,929.00 charge), hired two paraeducators for 2024–25, approved a $23,418 purchase of ten vehicle cameras, appointed a foundation representative and declined presented vestibule plans for the high school.
The Board of Education of the Corning Community Schools met Oct. 21 and voted to approve a package of personnel, procurement and construction items while deciding not to proceed with proposed vestibule entry plans for the high school.
At the start of the regular meeting, President Staci Venteicher and the five-member board adopted the consent agenda. Superintendent Fenster presented certified-enrollment data and administrative reports; Student Member Quaid Eddy gave a student report.
Ryan Nelson of Estes Construction presented two change orders. The board approved change order #007, a $9,929.00 charge for Vestibule A60 ceiling, roof drain and HP power changes, and change order #013 covering wall coverings and plumbing updates at no additional cost. The motions to approve the change orders were moved by Adam Boswell, seconded by Stephanie Hodapp, and carried unanimously.
Estes Construction also presented plans for a new main entry vestibule to the high school. After discussion, the board decided not to proceed with the vestibule entry plans as presented; the minutes record the decision but do not show a formal motion approving those plans.
The board approved two 2024–2025 personnel contracts. A motion by Adam Boswell, seconded by Trent Roberts, approved a transfer for Sarah Lillie from ECEC assistant to high-school paraeducator. Boswell and Roberts also moved and seconded approval of a 2024–2025 contract for Nina Miller as an elementary paraeducator. Both motions carried unanimously.
The board appointed Nancy Turner as the district’s representative to the Adams Community Foundation. The appointment was moved by Boswell, seconded by Hodapp and carried unanimously.
On safety and procurement, the board approved a Safe Fleet quote of $23,418 for ten cameras to be installed on school vehicles. That motion, moved by Boswell and seconded by Roberts, carried unanimously.
Finally, the board voted to waive the third reading and approve board policies 501.9 and 503.8 (motion by Boswell, seconded by Roberts); the motion carried unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m. on a motion by Stephanie Hodapp.
The board’s actions included routine personnel and procurement approvals, routine construction change‑order approvals, and a decision to pause the proposed high‑school vestibule project as presented. No contested votes or dissent were recorded in the minutes.
