Coralville Library Board approves FY27 budget with materials increase, elects 2026 officers

The Coralville Public Library Board of Trustees approved the Library's proposed FY27 budget and elected officers for 2026 at its Jan. 7 meeting.
Director Alison Ames Galstad presented a FY27 draft that includes a 5% increase to the materials budget. Board members discussed several line items: Lisa Mellecker questioned line 630.07 (Maintenance/Repairs Infrastructure), which Galstad said rose because of a recent increase in minor building repairs; Galstad said the line is shared with the city Maintenance department for small infrastructure fixes. Galstad explained that line 779.10 reflects bringing money from the library's reserve account (597.03) to pay for replacement of the public computer system, and that line 775.00 (furniture) was increased to cover new furniture tied to that upgrade. Galstad said lines 770.03 and 770.04 fund routine replacement of library furniture, book carts and staff computers.
Amanda Elkins moved to approve the budget as presented, Molly Logan seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. Galstad noted she will meet with department heads and then present to City Council on Jan. 20 as part of the municipal budget review process.
The board also took a slate vote for officers. Pat Kenner moved to elect Bob Turnquist as president, Lisa Mellecker as vice president and Molly Logan as secretary; Amanda Elkins seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The board approved routine business items earlier in the meeting: a corrected set of December minutes (X. Cretzmeyer moved to delete two paragraphs not from the board's meeting; Pat Kenner seconded and the motion passed), and payment of December bills including the library's share of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program. Those motions passed unanimously.
The board meets next on Wednesday, Feb. 4; Galstad also has meetings scheduled with department heads and City Council on Jan. 20 as part of the FY27 budget review.
