Sudbury Council on Aging plans survey and strategic-plan update; members consider changing term limits

The Town of Sudbury Council on Aging on Jan. 12 discussed updating its strategic plan and launching a community survey to gather resident input.
Mary Brauer, speaking as Transportation Committee liaison and COA member, urged the council to target “older middle-aged adults” and to prioritize loneliness in outreach. Members debated outreach methods, including technology-based flash votes, working through resident service coordinators and distributing the survey in the Sudbury Weekly. The group agreed to follow up with potential partners, including the MetroWest Foundation and Springwell, at a future meeting.
The discussion also covered internal governance: members discussed sending an article to the Select Board proposing elimination of COA term limits and the addition of two alternate board members. The minutes record that Nickole will forward the proposed article for approval.
Chair Paul Marotta reported there are two applications for the two vacant COA positions and one application for an associate position; interviews are expected in January. The council deferred approval of the December minutes; amendments will be made and the minutes will be voted on at the Feb. 9 meeting.
The meeting ended with procedural scheduling: the next COA meeting is Feb. 9, 2026, at 3:30 p.m., hybrid at the Senior Center and viewable later on Sudbury TV.
