Corning school board approves multiple construction change orders, including a $41,653 glycol adjustment

On Jan. 20, 2025, the Corning Community School District board approved several construction change orders after a project update from Estes Construction representatives.

Adam Hawxby and Ryan Nelson of Estes Construction briefed trustees on the ongoing construction work and submitted multiple change orders for board action. The board approved change order #019 for $41,653.00 to cover a glycol solution increase, additional vent piping and relocation of an EWC component; the measure was moved by Howard Anderson and seconded by Trent Roberts and carried unanimously.

Trustees also approved change order #022, covering toilet accessories per architect and custodial recommendations (cost remaining under $8,755.00), on a motion by Trent Roberts seconded by Stephanie Hodapp. Separately, the board approved change order #21 to cover a required performance bond from H2I for $470 (moved by Adam Boswell; seconded by Trent Roberts). Change order #014, which would clarify paint specifications and wall mural elevations, was tabled for further review.

During the construction discussion, board members and administrators also addressed masonry work for the elementary commons, options for bleachers in the elementary gym, construction of a concession stand, drywall for early childhood classrooms and the Farm to School program; those items were discussed with Estes Construction and district administration but did not generate separate board actions at this meeting.

The board's approvals allow the contractor to proceed with the specified adjustments; the tabled paint/mural items will return for further review. Superintendent Fenster and district staff will follow up with project stakeholders and contractors as needed. The board adjourned at 9:08 p.m.
