Corydon council clears audits, discusses lagoon delay and fire department drone purchase

On July 10, 2024, the Corydon City Council approved a series of administrative and operational items and discussed infrastructure and public‑safety needs during a 65‑minute meeting.
The council voted unanimously to approve Resolution 2025‑002, which sets FY25 employee and council assignments and depositories. Councilor Kenny Holmes made the motion and Councilor Kyle Hampton seconded; all four present councilors voted in favor. Separately, the council approved a letter of understanding to engage RGE & Associates for the city’s annual audit/exam after a motion by Councilor Chase Clark and a second from Councilor Bryan Wolfe.
City Clerk Stacy Gibbs told council members the city’s low‑to‑moderate income ratio has increased to 51.8 percent, making the city newly eligible to apply for certain federal funding programs. Gibbs also reported the city has received five applications for an open city crew position; the Personnel Committee will review applicants on July 17.
Public Works items included updates on South Street repairs and lagoon improvements. Gibbs said the contracted completion date for the lagoon project was June 28 and noted a $500 per day liquidated damages clause. Nancy Buss of Hall Engineering advised that liquidated damages are generally enforced when the city incurs additional costs due to delay; because the city has not incurred extra costs, the council’s general consensus was not to enforce the clause at this time.
Fire Chief Josh Cobb reported the department had a busy week of emergency calls and described a leak on the pumper truck caused by electrolysis; he is awaiting a repair estimate. Chief Cobb said the department is considering purchase of a thermal drone (bundled unit estimated at about $6,500). He said recent donations would cover the purchase and that no licensing is required for a unit under 2.5 pounds. The council did not vote on the purchase; it will consider a motion at the July 24 meeting.
Councilor Kenny Holmes announced the Housing/Nuisance Committee will meet July 16 and the Finance/Personnel Committee will meet July 17. The council set its next regular meeting for July 24, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. and adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
