Planning commission backs conditional use permit for vehicle parts and repair business with limits on outdoor displays

The Far West Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of a conditional use permit for a vehicle parts sales and repair business proposed by Alex Marr at 3677 North 2000 West. The recommendation passed after commissioners attached conditions limiting outdoor displays and clarifying parking use.

Commissioners questioned Marr about day-to-day operations, parking and customer flow. Marr said the business typically has "five to 10" vehicles for sale at a time and that customer visits are short — "five or 10 minutes" — because many transactions are pick-ups or scheduled services. Commissioners confirmed that work would be done inside the building and that some parts would be stored on shelves.

Greg Pierce moved to recommend approval; Luke seconded. Commissioners amended the recommendation to state that no more than 10 of the site’s 17 spaces be allocated for vehicles displayed for sale and that only functioning vehicles be displayed outside. The motion passed on a voice vote. Marr was told the item will be scheduled on the City Council agenda for July 16.
