Corning school board approves construction change orders, equipment purchases and appointments

The Board of Education of the Corning Comm School District on July 15 approved a series of routine and project-related actions, including construction change orders, vendor contracts, personnel designations and small student-activity funding.
Superintendent Fenster updated the board on district projects and Estes Construction explained change orders included in Transmittal #1; the board (moved by Trent Roberts and seconded by Stephanie Hodapp) approved Transmittal #1 as presented. The board also approved a $43,590.00 quote from H2I Group for gym equipment (moved by Roberts, seconded by Hodapp).
The board designated district depository banks and limits — TS Bank ($3,000,000), UMB Bank ($3,000,000) and the Iowa Schools Joint Investment Trust ($20,000,000) — by a unanimous vote. The board named Stephanie Hodapp as the district Legislative Action Network representative and selected IASB legislative priorities, recording seven votes for Supplemental State Aid and one for Preschool Funding.
Personnel and compliance items approved included Allison Thomas and Jennifer Bissell as Level I investigators, and Superintendent Fenster as the Affirmative Action Coordinator for 2024–2025. The board approved Ahlers Law Firm as district attorney and Adams County Free Press as the district newspaper for the coming year. The bread bid from Bimbo Bakeries and the milk bid from Anderson Erickson were approved as presented.
The board approved Jodi Lyddon as district secretary/treasurer for one year; President Staci Venteicher then administered the oath of office to Lyddon. The board voted to allow $200 for a student to attend the Southwest Iowa Honor Band trip in 2024–2025; voting yes were Howard Anderson, Stephanie Hodapp, Trent Roberts and President Venteicher, while Adam Boswell abstained.
On a separate motion the board approved transferring funds from the general fund to the student activity fund for expenditures up to $10,000 for athletic safety and protective gear, citing Iowa Code Section 298A.8(2). That motion passed with Anderson, Hodapp, Roberts and Venteicher voting yes and Boswell voting no.
The board approved a $10,000 quote from Boland Recreation for shade structures for the preschool and ECEC playgrounds (moved by Adam Boswell, seconded by Hodapp). The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
The actions recorded at this meeting were routine approvals and project-related procurements; no new policy was adopted and no contested hearings were held.
