Dike council approves sheriff contract, sales-tax transfer, street closures and bills at July 9 meeting

The Dike City Council on July 9, 2025 adopted a set of routine and substantive actions, including a contract with the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, a local option sales tax transfer to the general fund, event street closures and approval of the claims report.
Council adopted Resolution #0709202503 to approve the FY26 Grundy County Sheriff Office agreement for $105,520; Feaker introduced the resolution, Camarata seconded and a roll call recorded ayes from Camarata, Feaker, Mikkelsen, Kauten and Lynch. Council also adopted Resolution #0709202501 to transfer $30,425.50 in FY25 local option sales tax to the general fund (introduced by Mikkelsen, seconded by Kauten; roll call recorded unanimous ayes).
Several event-related street closures were approved unanimously: a one-block closure for Joyful Java on July 11, routes and closures for Watermelon Days on Aug. 8–9 (including the parade route), closure of Main Street for Lynch’s Pub during the festival, and the Dollar’s for Scholars 5K route for Aug. 9. A request to add a handicap parking spot for Joyful Java was discussed and staff was asked to evaluate the area and applicable rules before the council decides.
Council approved financial reports and moved to allow and pay bills listed in the claims report. The meeting minutes present an Accounts Payable total of $156,357.58, Payroll $28,938.25 and a report total of $185,295.83.
Other items: the fire department presented monthly activity counts and upcoming community events; the mayor announced a grant from the 100 Women of Grundy County for park-shelter repairs, the farmers market schedule and the Joyful Java grand opening on July 11. The council adjourned after routine business.
