Dike council hears $580,000 pool-repair estimate; members warned bonding above $400,000 would require a 2025 ballot

The estimate prompted a procedural and budgetary discussion because state code requires that any bond issue exceeding $400,000 be placed on the ballot; council members noted that would push any bonding decision to the Nov. 2025 election. Mayor Sadie Six and councilmembers did not vote on funding at the meeting; instead, they directed staff to follow up with Mid American Pool Restoration and report back.
Why it matters: repairing the pool at the estimated cost would be a sizable capital project for Dike and could require direct voter approval if the city needs to issue bonds above the $400,000 statutory threshold. The timeline and scope of repairs remain to be determined pending a more detailed scope and options from the contractor.
Council will revisit the matter after staff provides the contractor's detailed scope, cost breakdown and any alternatives such as phased repairs or grant funding.
