At the Oct. 3 meeting the Early City Council directed the City Clerk to notify property owners whose trees overhang city streets and may violate Ordinance Chapter 151. Kris Alesch of Public Works submitted a list of candidate properties; the clerk will mail notices giving residents approximately one month, or until before snow, to trim branches to a 15-foot clearance over the curb.
Councilors discussed that if property owners do not comply within the given timeframe the city may perform the trimming and charge the cost back to the property owner, consistent with the ordinance. During the discussion B. Bainbridge asked not to receive a letter; Public Works staff indicated some of his trees appeared to be in violation and Mr. Bainbridge acknowledged the issue.
No fines or specific enforcement dates were announced at the meeting; the clerk’s mailings are the next step.
