Dike council adopts new water-rate ordinance; charges set at $15/month and $5.96 per 1,000 gallons

The Dike City Council on Jan. 14 adopted an ordinance replacing Section 3.1.13 of the city code to set a fixed monthly meter fee of $15 and a volumetric charge of $5.96 per 1,000 gallons for municipal water customers, effective Feb. 1, 2026.

Councilmember Camarata introduced Resolution #01142601 for first reading and moved its adoption; the motion was seconded by Mikkelsen and approved by roll call. The council then voted to advance the measure from first to third reading on a motion by Mikkelsen, and Lynch presented Resolution #01142602 for final reading and adoption. Roll-call votes on final reading were unanimous; the mayor declared the resolution duly adopted.

The ordinance text repeals the existing section of the code and replaces it with new rates and administrative provisions. It specifies that where water service has been temporarily disconnected for nonpayment or code violations, service will not be restored except by written order of the clerk and payment of all bills plus a $50 reconnect charge. The same $50 charge applies to customer-requested disconnections and reconnections. The measure includes a severability clause and states the ordinance will be effective upon passage and publication, with an effective date listed as Feb. 1, 2026.

The change affects all customers of Dike Municipal Water Works by altering both the monthly base meter charge and the per-thousand-gallon rate; the council did not record any dissenting votes. The council did not amend the dollar amounts during the meeting.

The ordinance was introduced, advanced, and adopted in the same meeting; publication and formal posting as required by law will follow before the Feb. 1 effective date.
